This is Hong Xiuquan and he is a close second to Mao in terms of mass murder for his Taiping Rebellion.  There is an excellent book by Jonathan Spence called `God's Chinese Son', even if you don't read the religious sections, the biography and accounts of the war are worth reading for those interested in China.
